KIM QUANG TEMPLE
Kim Quang Temple (Temple) is the oldest Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in Sacramento. The Temple was created in 1978 when the Vietnamese Buddhist Community in Sacramento purchased a small house built in the 1950s on an acre lot on Alta Arden Expressway and temporarily converted it into a place of worship. Kim Quang Temple then operated under the spiritual guidance and leadership of the most venerable Thích Tịnh Từ and the late most venerable Thích Thiên Ân. In 1981, the late most venerable Thích Thiện Trì immigrated to the United States and took over the spiritual leadership responsibility for the Temple. Under the late most venerable Thích Thiện Trì’s guidance, a 15 feet cement Quan-Yin statue and a Tam Quan gate was constructed along with general upgrades of the Temple. Over the years, the Temple has tirelessly served the community while quietly awaiting for a much needed face-lift. In 2001, the Reverend Thích Thiện Duyên was asked to help assume the spiritual leadership of the Temple for the then ailing most venerable Thích Thiện Trì. On December 27, 2003, a stone laying ceremony was conducted to officically “kick-off” the construction planning effort. The Kim Quang Temple Construction Committee was established shortly thereafter to plan and design the reconstruction of the Temple. After two years of design and permit applications with Sacramento County, the Construction Committee is expecting to receive permission for this reconstruction effort in January 2008. Thus, the remaining effort is to continue reaching out and gather community support and contributing to collectively accomplish this historic and spiritual construction task.



​CHÙA KIM QUANG

Chùa Kim Quang nguyên là một căn nhà nhỏ tọa lạc trên đường Alta Arden Expressway, với diện tích 1.4 bộ vuông đất. Năm 1978, Hội Phật Tử Việt Nam tại Sacramento thành lập dưới sự Lãnh đạo tinh thần của cố Hòa Thượng Thích Thiên Ân và Hòa Thượng Thích Tịnh Từ. Vào năm 1981, Cố Hòa Thượng Thích Thiện Trì từ Đảo Galang, Indonesia qua nhậm chức trú trì. Ngài đã kiến tạo một pho tượng Bồ Tát Quán-Thế-Âm, xây cổng Tam quan, và tu sửa phòng xá. Trải qua 28 năm, ngôi chùa cổ nhất tại thủ phủ California xuống cấp trầm trọng. Năm 2001, ban điều hành cung thỉnh Đại Đức Thích Thiện Duyên về trú trì điều hành phật sự. Đứng trước cảnh thiền môn hoang phế, Thầy phát khởi đồ án và quí phật tử đồng lòng chung sức đóng góp tịnh tài để xúc tiến công trình kiến thiết chùa. Buổi lễ đặt viên đá vào ngày 27 tháng 12, năm 2003. Theo dự tính sẽ hoàn tất ngôi chánh điện trong năm 2008. Công đức xây chùa tạo tượng là một việc làm phước lợi nhằm đáp ứng nhu cầu sinh hoạt tâm linh đến mọi giới và đem lại nguồn sống đạo Phật vào lòng dân tộc Hoa Kỳ muôn đời khắc ghi dòng giống Việt. Chùa xin kêu gọi lòng tốt của mọi người đóng góp tịnh tài để tâm nguyện chung chóng thành tựu.
